Phillip Read began working for the Town of Bridgewater in September 2021 as the Police Chief, leaving the City of Harrisonburg where he worked as a Patrol Lieutenant and Swat Commander. Phillip, his wife and four children, have lived in Bridgewater since 2016 and loves the town. He and his family enjoy all that Bridgewater has to offer and the decision to be a part of the Bridgewater Police Department was without a doubt an easy decision. He looks forward to the many years he can serve the community.

Phillip was a soldier with the Army National Guard in the 29th Infantry Division from 2003-2009, serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. He graduated from James Madison University in 2009 in Justice Studies. He worked for the Harrisonburg Police Department from 2009-2021 in various roles including: Corporal and Sergeant on Patrol, Special Operations Bike Unit Corporal, Major Crimes Detective Sergeant and Patrol Lieutenant.  In 2016, he completed a Master of Science in Criminal Justice: Public Administration at Liberty University. He loves being a part of the community’s public safety and being able to keep it a great place to raise a family.
