Lead and Copper Inventory for Water Service Lines

Service LineThe Federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently strengthened its drinking water standards for lead and copper.  The revised requirements protect public health to an even greater degree by reducing exposure to lead in drinking water.

As part of the new federal requirements, the Town will be inventorying each water service line to determine the pipe’s composition.  A service line is the water pipe that connects the water main on the street to the piping in your home.

This requirement is a lot of work for us!  But partnering with us will be helpful AND provide you with a bonus.  We are asking that you provide us with the following information through one of the options listed below.

  1. Complete the online survey. This will require a photograph of your service line and a self-identification of the pipe’s composition (galvanized, copper, lead, plastic).  Once we receive your submission, we will provide a one-time credit to your utility account in the amount of $30.00.  The deadline for self-certification is April 12, 2024.
  2. If you require assistance, our staff is available to help. Please call 540-908-3397 to request assistance.  If you request assistance from staff to complete the self-certification, a one-time credit in the amount of $15.00 will be credited to your utility account.  The deadline for self-certification is April 12, 2024.
  3. If you are unable to respond to the survey, we still must complete this inventory. Beginning in April, staff will begin to go door to door to inventory the remaining service lines.
