Waste Management observes the following holidays:
- New Year’s
- Memorial Day
- 4th of July
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
When a holiday falls on a collection day, service for that day and the following days of that week will be delayed by one day.
You can opt-in for a second cart at any time. However, you can only opt-out during February and October. If you want a second cart, complete this form and submit it to the Bridgewater Community Center (201 Green Street).
Put your cart curbside in front of your home. Please allow three feet of clearance between objects and your cart. This allows the automated arm the space needed to grab and dump the cart.
Each load will be separated into different types of items. Please do not put items out in trash cans. Items may be bagged for large item and set out for pick-up, but we cannot dump trash cans at this time. Other items may just be set out. We ask that you separate your large items as follows:
- Metals (including appliances)
- Furniture
- Tree Limbs (no longer than 8' in length)
- Household Trash (too large for standard trash collection)
Grass clippings and leaves must be bagged. Other vegetation must be stacked as neatly as possible, with branches no longer than eight feet. Your vegetation can also be placed in a Waste Management trash cart for regular weekly pickup. If you need an additonal cart, for just $1.00 per month, give B-Connected a call at 540-908-4212.
Collection begins on the first Monday of the month at 7:00 am, and we need for your materials to be out at that time. Setting them out later can mess with our planning. Also, the ordinance prohibits large-item trash from being placed near the street more than 60 hours before collection. That means you can start putting out your large items out at 7:00 pm on the preceding Friday. It will take the Maintenance Department several days to collect everything throughout town, but rest assured we will get to it by the end of the week!
Some common acceptable large items:
- Appliances
- Metals
- Tree Limbs No Longer Than 8' in Length and 6" in Diameter
- Furniture
- Mattresses
- Household Trash too Large for Standard Collection
Some common unacceptable large items:
- Tires
- Lead Acid Batteries
- Motor Vehicles or Motor Vehicle Parts
- Tree Limbs Over 8’ in Length and 6" in Diameter
- Tree Stumps
- Paint or Liquid Containers That Have Not Been Allowed to Dry Out
If we decline to pick up something under our rules or the ordinance, we will always send you a note explaining why. This doesn’t happen very often.
Many large items require collection by heavy machinery. If items are on your grass, the machinery might do some damage to your yard. You will need to repair any ruts or other damage. (Thankfully, this doesn’t happen very often.)

Kids up to age 10 are encouraged to participate in their family's recycling efforts through the Recycler's Card program. For each trip they make to the Recycle Center, they receive a punch on their card. Ten trips complete a card. With their first completed card, they win a "Ben" t-shirt; the second entitles them to a "Corey" t-shirt, and the third, a "Daliyah" t-shirt. The fourth and final completed card wins a coveted spot on our Wall of Fame!
